Parent Staff Organization (PSO)
As we provide guidance for this year's Parent Staff Organization, we
encourage each and every member (that's YOU) to bring your time and talents to work for the benefit of
our unique community of lifelong learners. There are so many opportunities to be a part of your child's
educational experience here at Prairie Crossing Charter School.
Help in the classroom! Volunteer for special events! Become a phenomenal fundraiser! Assist with
early-release day teacher luncheons! Work on the PSO newsletter! Mentor new families at PCCS! Open car
doors in carpool line to get the day off to a great start for these great kids! If you've got a terrific
idea to show support for our staff and students, give us a call!
"Schools with strong parent involvement programs experience profound benefits for students, parents,
teachers, and administrators. Research shows that when parents are involved in students' education, those
students generally have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and more consistently completed
homework." – National Parent Teacher Association
PSO Mission Statement
As your new PSO Officers this year, our goal is to foster a sense of community by building on the past
success of the PSO and bringing families together to move our school forward. Our main focus this year is
to get as many families involved as possible, reaching out to working families and stay-at-home parents
alike. Last year, the PSO was reorganized into eight teams providing a huge array of opportunities for
different interests and time commitments. Participating in a PSO-sponsored program or volunteering is a
great way to meet other PCCS families and become connected to our great school community.
We will continue to fundraise, but only as necessary to support our programs. PSO funds are funneled
directly back to the students, teachers and PCCS community where they will have maximum impact. Some of
our many programs include an expense reimbursement for teachers, grants for special classroom or
curriculum-based learning experiences and educational opportunities for everyone in the form of Experience
PCCS Saturdays. Our major fundraisers will involve a community service aspect; for example, the Holiday
Bazaar, which benefits the Staben House shelter. PSO on-going fundraising efforts will strive to involve
no additional dollar cost to parents; examples include Box Tops for Education, SCRIP, Tyson Chicken Labels
for Education, and Natural Ovens.
We hope you will consider getting involved this year, whether it is attending one of our informational or
social activities, serving on a PSO team, or volunteering in your child’s classroom -- take advantage of
our many programs and opportunities.
